California natives, Avenged Sevenfold played this past weekend at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Nebraska. They are currently out supporting their newest release “Life Is But a Dream…”. It was an interesting start to the show as the lights went down, lead vocalist M. Shadows took the stage wearing a ski mask and sat in a chair in the middle of the stage. The band started with “Game Over” off the new album. This was my second time to be able to cover Avenged Sevenfold. I felt this was a much different feel than the first time I saw them. A little more theatrical, with the ski mask beginning and darker lighting throughout the show. There were no pyrotechnics but the light show was amazing. The large backdrop lighting that covered the stage, simulated fire at times and it looked pretty awesome.
The set list had a good mix of old and new songs of the latest release. Playing lots of crowd favorites like “Afterlife”, “Hail To The King”, and “Bat Country”. They also dug deep and played some that M. Shadows said they hadn’t played in awhile, like ‘Shepard of Fire”, “Roman Sky”, and “Nightmare”. The crowd reactions from these songs was very loud and enthusiastic. It’s clear that Lincoln loves Avenged Sevenfold. There were a lot of fans singing aloud word for word, even with the deeper cuts. The news songs they played went over well with the crowd, “We Love You” was awesome and the set closer “Cosmic” pretty amazing too.
I love the high energy that Avenged Sevenfold bring to the stage. And the chemistry between guitarists Synyster Gates and Zacky Vengeance is evident throughout the show. It was a great show to see. Visually and musically I feel like there are few bands touring right now that match these guys. They also seem to have a lot of fun while performing. I think that goes a long ways for the crowd. The Lincoln crowd matched the bands intensity throughout the night. It was loud! If you get a chance to catch this tour, you should definitely do it!
